President's Corner
The proposed bylaw changes are intended to better align leadership terms and Chapter operations with the calendar year. Adjusted from an HQ supplied template, leadership terms and the fiscal year will move from September–August to January–December. Board nominations and selection will happen later in the year to support the revised timeline. The Board will consist of four Directors-at-Large, Secretary, Treasurer, President, Past President, and President Elect.
The Nominations and Elections Committee will continue using the current slate-based process and will include at least five members who have been part of the Chapter for at least one year and who represent the diversity of the membership. The President-Elect will continue to lead the committee, and committee members may not run for office.
Term limits and elections will change for the Secretary role and Treasurer. Both will work together on two-year term limits that will hold elections in alternating years to create continuity with the Executive Committee of Board leadership. The bylaws will also require an annual audit each year, replacing the current option to conduct either an audit or a financial review.
These incremental changes to the bylaws create consistency across all SMPS chapters nationwide and support the transition to operations within a calendar year.
